Bibles for Kenya: The Need

Bibles for Kenya: The Need

First of all, I want to thank my dear brother in Christ Diego Caloca for allowing me to post this on his website. Hands down, I love the work this brother does. If you wish to read my review of the work Diego did for me, please feel free to read here.

Really, No Bibles?

So you might read this and think, “So what’s wrong with Kenyan’s? Why can’t they get their own Bibles?” Well there are a couple of reasons that the very great majority of Christians in Kenya (and other parts of the world) do not have Bibles. Let me be brief and yet painfully truthful.

  1. Most Kenyan’s are poor because they do not have the same opportunities as we, who under God’s providence, live in the United States and other prosperous cultures
  2. Many false prophets, these so-called men and women of God (most of which multimillionaires), have literally robbed the people of their small financial means, left them with a very bad and false view of Christianity, and never gave them a Bible.
  3. We who live in affluent cultures seem to swallow down prosperity for our own gain, our own fleshly appetites and creature comforts, yet forget those who are without.

We need to be reminded, “to whom much is given, much will be required.” (Luke 12:48) Never let us forget, our God does not change. If the following was true of God’s people in Ezekiel’s day, how much more will we be held to account: “Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom; she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.” (Ezekiel 16:49) Let that sink in for just a moment.

So what can you do?

Listen to what Jesus said about the poor widow who only gave 2 small copper coins. “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” (Luke 21:4) What you can do is draw near to God, obey the word of God, pray and ask the Lord to show you what you should do. Maybe re-read the last two passages of Scripture for a good starting place.

What can you do? Read all of this; consider what the Lord would have of you; pray; share this on social media, with your pastor, with your church friends and small groups.

What does a Bible in Kenya cost?

For roughly the price of a cup of coffee at a fancy coffee shop, you can drastically change a person’s life. For as little as $5 $6 USD someone in Kenya can receive their own Bible for the very first time. Amazing! So no matter how little you give, you can help those who are without.

How can I know that my funds will go towards Bibles and be distributed?

Great question. First know that we are partnering with About-Face Missions (AFM) on this project. Not only this, but our missionary in Kenya, Jeff Bys, will be directing all of the Bibles and other resources right on the mission field.

Well who is AFM and Jeff Bys? Great question again. Below are all the links you need. Also, be sure to watch the newly released documentary of Jeff and Stephanie Bys and their work with the AFM Mercy Children’s Home in Bungoma, Kenya.

How many Bibles do you need?

Well, to be quite honest, thousands upon thousands. However, we would love to have a jump-start of a thousand to get us off the ground. We would love to help all of Kenya and other missionaries and pastors throughout Kenya who are laboring in the true Gospel without any Bibles and no good study resources.

How can I give?

Below is a link which takes you to About-Face Missions donation page. Once there, select “General Fund or Other. Note Below” and then type in the space to specify “Bibles for Kenya“. It is a tax deductible donation.

A Simple Bible and You

A Simple Bible and You

What is it about a Bible exactly for the believer? Could it be that it is as it says? “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) And what about having the ability to have a BibleĀ in a particular English version, and with the exact cover you want? Is that not a wonderful thing? Sure it is. But let us stop and think for a moment…

What about those, and when I say those roughly a great majority of people, who do not yet have a Bible? What about the 1,800 languages that are still have not been translated? While owning a fine Bible is a wonderful blessing, let us not forget those who have yet to touch one. Continue reading
