A Simple Bible and You
What is it about a Bible exactly for the believer? Could it be that it is as it says? “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) And what about having the ability to have a Bible in a particular English version, and with the exact cover you want? Is that not a wonderful thing? Sure it is. But let us stop and think for a moment…
What about those, and when I say those roughly a great majority of people, who do not yet have a Bible? What about the 1,800 languages that are still have not been translated? While owning a fine Bible is a wonderful blessing, let us not forget those who have yet to touch one.
What can we do?
Let us first begin by really recognizing just where we are at in regards to this. Maybe some of us, especially newer Christians, have never knew anything about this. Maybe some of us have not given it a serious consideration. Maybe some of us are in need of some personal repentance as we may have elevated our “books” above the thoughts, prayers and needs of others. Just maybe, for some of us, this is indeed our starting point.
Then after we come to an initial understanding, what then? For if we have been brought to a true awareness and certain degree of concern or feelings, should we not respond? Most certainly.
We ought to authentically pray and seek God for His will in our personal life, especially in regards to how we can be of help and to what degree we are to help. Now, I know what you’re saying, well, I just don’t have much to give. Never forget the poor woman when Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing out of the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” All we are trying to say is, amount does not really matter (although we understand the significance of amount), but the motivation and the drive behind why we do what we do, give what we give, and etc.
Practical Actions
So, what are some practical actions we can take? First of all, prayer, prayer and more prayer. We believe that prayer, authentically praying, is an absolute must for everything in the Christian life. Secondly, learn more about what you can do and different ministries you can be a part of in the distribution of Bibles in the most unreached and impoverished areas of the world. We have started a page with a few resources on it. We hope to build this more and more in the coming days ahead. Visit our Forgotten? page to learn more.
You can also consider what I am personally offering. For the next 40 days, if you purchase a copy of either, Foothills of True Grace / As Christ: A Man and Marriage / Reveling or Resisting, all of the proceeds will go to benefit Vision Beyond Borders. Learn more about Vision Beyond Borders, Bible smuggling, sex-trafficking, and much more on their website.
More than anything…
More than anything, never, never, never forget our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world who have yet to receive a Bible or hear of the Gospel. For we hope to honor God in everything, this includes the rebinding of fine Bible and book covers to preserve the words that mean so much to you. More than even these things, may we walk with our God authentically, in reality and with intentionality.
Ask yourself, what shall I do? Then ask God, what shall I do, Oh Lord?
Blessings!
